The presentation of the food is something. The size of the space was intimate and quiet and the soft sound of classical music really sets the ambiance). The soft lighting and the warm welcome help create a charming and romantic setting. I would really love to recommend this place because I really enjoyed the hostess, the waiter and the ambience but found the place to quite overpriced for the quality and flavour of the meal we had. I was most disappointed with the cheese plate that had the tiniest portion sizes for very generic cheese offerings like gouda and brie. I was also quite disappointed in the wine parings neither seem to enhance or excite the meal or be very interesting themselves. I found most of the dishes to be on the blander side and also not very exciting or creative in flavour combinations. I really enjoyed the ambience, presentation, and service that the restaurant offered but was quite disappointed at the flavours of the meal itself. I was bit surprised that I was not getting a new wine with each new dish but it sort of was a good thing because I was unable to make it through all the wine pairings by the end of the meal. I opted for the French wine pairing which was the pricer one. There was only one tasting menu but you had the option to either pair the meal with California wines or French wines. and chairs to be a bit cramped for a fine dinning restaurant but it seemed to work, we really did not seem to be interrupted too much by the other patrons. The lighting really made the dinning experience quite fun, we had a wonderful waiter who I believe was British. Could not say enough good things about the Ambience of the place. A great restaurant for a special occasion (or regularly if you are wealthy!) – I’m taking my sweeties and my son and his GF there for his birthday in a couple of weeks! More While I have loved several meals at Chez TJ, which has a Michelin star, this meal at Ambience was it’s equal in service and superior in food, so clearly it has been over-looked by the Michelin reviewers. See pics under my google review (the 1st 3 preceded the 1st course - amuse bouches). Kudos! Who knew that Los Altos had a restaurant if this quality? Highly recommended. At Ambience we had 3 terrific amuse bouches (The standout being #3, the Coos Bay oyster in some terrific reduction and liquid N2), followed by 13 courses (plus a chef's freebie, a terrific blue fin tuna tartare with flying fish roe & frizzled leak), paired with their premium wine pairing ($165/per person for the pairing, and SO worth it!), and when we finished the final terrific dessert course paired with a dessert Sauterne, followed by espresso, we were all 3 sated but not overfull/stuffed. Nothing, to me, is quite as annoying as paying $1200 for a 13 course tasting menu and being stuffed before the 1st game dish. Excellent service, exquisite flavors and presentation, superb wine pairings, and most important, excellent pacing and portion sizes. The experience could not have been better. 3 star, black truffle-intensive), Alain Ducasse in Paris, Le Crocodile in Stasbourg, etc. It was their 1st dining experience at this level, and my 40th or so (Manresa, French Laundry, Elizabeth Daniel, Louis 14th in Monte Carlo (Michelin.
